Give an agent read access to your code

Let Cursor, Codex, Claude Code or another AI tool read your site's code, by cloning the repository with GitHub or by connecting it to Willo with a token.

Your own AI coding tool can read your site's code in two ways. Pick by what you want it to do:

  • Clone the repository from GitHub. The tool reads the code on your computer, with your GitHub login. Read-only, on every plan.
  • Connect the tool to Willo with an agent token, on Builder and up. The tool reads the code, the backend and the business through Willo, and with the right token it can make changes under Willo's rules. See Connect your agent.

This guide covers the first. You need to be an admin or the owner of the business. A viewer or editor sees a notice instead; an admin can do this for their own account, or give you the admin role.

1. Invite your GitHub account

  1. Open your business, go to Settings → AI Agents, and find the Your code on GitHub card.
  2. Enter your GitHub username and choose Continue.
  3. Willo shows the account it found. Check it is yours, then choose Yes, send invitation.

If the card says the repository is still being set up, your site hasn't finished its first build. Check back once it has.

2. Accept the invitation

GitHub emails you an invitation, and it also appears in your GitHub notifications. Accept it. GitHub invitations expire after seven days; if yours does, choose Resend invitation on the card.

Once you've accepted, the card shows Connected, the repository's link and a Copy git clone command button.

3. Clone it and point your tool at it

Copy the clone command from the card and run it in a terminal:

git clone <the address from the card>

Then open the folder in your tool (Cursor, Codex, Claude Code or any other) as you would any project. It can read every file.

Two branches matter:

  • main is your live site.
  • draft holds unpublished changes, when drafting is on.

Run git pull to pick up what Willo has changed since you cloned.

What the tool can't do

Pushing is refused: the access is read-only, on every plan, and no plan changes that. Every change still goes through Willo. If your tool drafts a change, paste it into Willo's chat and ask Willo to apply it. To let the tool make changes itself, connect it with a read + act agent token instead.

Don't install a GitHub App or a third-party connector on the repository; they need write access, which isn't available.

Removing access

Choose Remove my access on the card. Copies you already cloned stay on your computer. Access also ends on its own if you stop being an admin, or if the business is transferred or deleted.

Each admin connects their own GitHub account, one per person per business. A teammate who wants access connects their own.
