Send an email campaign

Set up the list your campaigns go to, have Willo draft a newsletter, read the test copy, confirm the send, and check how it went.

Willo writes and sends newsletters and announcements to your business's mailing list from chat. Every campaign goes to you as a test copy first, and nothing reaches the list until you confirm. This page is the chat path. The Growth Engine never sends campaigns. An Agent Program can, if you give it the tool, and then follows the program's mode: set to ask first, each send waits for your approval.

1. Check the list

Ask Willo "how many people are on my email list?". It tells you the count, where the list comes from, and which account campaigns send from.

The list can come from:

  • sign-ups from your site's newsletter form;
  • a CSV you upload in chat. Willo shows what it would import first, then imports on your go-ahead;
  • a table in your backend, such as members with an active membership. Willo shows you the live count on a card and you approve it. From then on that table is the list every campaign goes to, until you change it;
  • one address at a time: "add sam@example.com to the list".

Removing an address unsubscribes it, and that can't be undone by Willo, so it asks you first.

2. Ask for the campaign

Describe what to send:

Write a short newsletter announcing our autumn menu, with a link to the menu page. Greet people by first name.

Willo drafts the subject, a preview line and the body.

3. Read the test copy

Willo sends a test copy to you, not the list, and tells you which address it came from. Open it in your inbox and check the subject, the links and how it looks on your phone. Names show a stand-in in the test; real names fill in on the live send.

Want changes? Say so. Willo makes a new draft and sends a new test copy. Each business can send 10 test copies a day.

4. Confirm the send

When the test is right, tell Willo to send it. A card shows who it goes to and how many people, and the sending address. Confirm on the card.

Willo refuses a send when the list is empty, or when the email provider's count of the list is out of step with Willo's. Ask it to sync the list, then try again.

What every campaign includes

Willo adds an unsubscribe link to every campaign's footer, and the business's postal address once it has one. Don't write your own unsubscribe link. People who unsubscribe or bounce come off the list automatically.

Which address it sends from

SetupSends from
DefaultYour business's name, at a willo-mail.com address.
Your own domainAn address at your domain, such as hello@yourdomain.com.

To send from your own domain, ask Willo to move campaigns to it. It asks which mailbox replies should go to and for the business's postal address, then you approve the move on a card. Your domain needs to be set up for sending first; Willo checks and tells you if it isn't. The move can't be undone from chat.

How it went

Ask "how did the last campaign do?". Willo lists recent campaigns and how many people each went to, plus any tested drafts still waiting for your go-ahead, with when they were tested.

Willo reports how many people each campaign went to, and when. It doesn't track opens or clicks.
