Sell something with Stripe
Create a product in chat, put its checkout link on your site, test a purchase, deliver what was bought, and check revenue and customers.
On this page
This takes one product from idea to first sale: a consultation, a course, a membership or a download. You need Stripe connected; see Start taking payments.
1. Create the product
Tell Willo what you are selling and for how much:
Create a product called "Beginner pottery course", £120, one-time payment. Description: six evening classes, all materials included.
For a subscription, say how often it bills:
Create a "Studio membership" at £35 a month, with a 14-day free trial.
Willo shows you what it is about to create and asks you to confirm. Once you do, it creates the product on your Stripe account and returns its checkout link: a permanent Stripe-hosted page where the customer pays.
What you can set:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Price | One fixed price, in your Stripe account's own currency by default. GBP, USD, EUR, CAD or AUD on request. |
| Billing | One-time, or recurring daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. |
| Free trial | For recurring products, 1 to 730 days, with or without taking a card up front. |
Match the trial to what your site promises. "No credit card required" means no card is taken, and the subscription ends at the trial's end unless the customer adds one.
2. Put it on your site
Ask Willo to place the link:
Add a "Book the course" button to the courses page that goes to the checkout link.
Willo edits the page. If your business drafts changes, the button shows on the draft preview until you publish.
You can also send the link in an email campaign, or share it anywhere.
3. Test a purchase
Open your site, click the button, and check the checkout page shows the right name, price and trial. A purchase with a real card is a real payment, so test with a product you would happily sell to yourself. Then ask Willo, or check the Revenue tab, to see it arrive.
4. Deliver what was bought
Stripe takes the payment; delivering the product is up to you and your site. Decide how each buyer gets what they paid for:
- A service or booking: you follow up with each buyer to schedule. Their email is on the customer list.
- A download: a thank-you page on your site, or an email with the link once the payment shows.
- A membership: member login on your backend. Granting access automatically on payment needs a payment webhook, which only a Standard account can have (see below). Ask Willo what it can build for your account.
A buy button Willo builds on your site brings the buyer back to your site's checkout success page after paying, so that page is where to say what happens next. The checkout link on its own, shared somewhere else, ends on Stripe's confirmation page.
5. Check revenue and customers
Ask in chat:
- "How much did we take this month?"
- "Who are our most recent customers?"
- "What products do we have in Stripe?"
Willo answers from your Stripe account. Revenue defaults to the last 30 days; name another window if you want one. Only owners and admins can ask for revenue and customer details. Business → Revenue shows the same in the dashboard.
When a customer says they paid but got nothing
First confirm the payment: ask Willo "Did sam@example.com pay?". If they did, the checkout worked and the gap is delivery: the thank-you page, the download link or the email. Ask Willo to check that, not to rebuild the checkout.
Prices that change per order
A product has one fixed price. For quotes, bookings priced by length, or a fee added to a rate, see Prices a fixed product can't express.
