Switch from Express to a Standard account

Replace the Stripe account Willo created with your own Standard account, to get per-order prices, your own checkout, payment webhooks and API keys.

An Express account, the kind Create a new Stripe account makes, has no API keys or webhooks. That rules out prices that change per order, your own checkout, and payments that trigger something on your site. A Standard account has all of them. Stripe can't change an Express account into a Standard one, so the switch connects a different account.

If every price you charge is fixed, you don't need to switch. A limited-looking Express dashboard is normal; see How Stripe Connect works.

Before you start

Ask Willo in chat what is on your Express account. It lists your products, revenue, and any subscribers. Then know what carries over and what doesn't:

  • Your Express account stays yours on Stripe, and Stripe still pays out its balance to your bank.
  • Its buy links keep taking payments into the Express account. Willo recreates your products on the new account and replaces the links on your site.
  • Subscriptions on Express keep billing there. To move, a subscriber signs up again on the new account.
  • Checkout branding moves to your own Stripe dashboard, under Settings → Branding.

Switch

An owner or admin does these steps:

  1. Create a Stripe account at stripe.com, or use one you already have.
  2. Open Settings → Connections and click Disconnect this Stripe account on the Stripe Connect card.
  3. Open Business → Revenue, click Setup Payments, choose I already have a Stripe account, and sign in to Stripe.
  4. Tell Willo in chat that you've switched. It checks the new account, recreates your products, replaces the links on your site, and builds the checkout you need.

For a custom checkout, Willo asks for a restricted Stripe key in a secure form (never in chat), and for you to add one webhook endpoint in your Stripe dashboard.
