Member login and login email
How member accounts on your site work, why login emails stop after a couple of sends, and how connecting your own Resend account lifts the limit.
On this page
When your site has member login (a customer portal, a members-only page, sign-up for a course), the accounts live on your backend. This page covers those accounts and the emails your site sends them. Your own login to Willo is a different thing.
Member accounts
Members sign up and sign in on your site, usually with an emailed link or code, and Willo's access rules let each one see only their own data. Ask Willo about them in chat: "how many members signed up this week?", "has jo@example.com confirmed their account?".
Member accounts always live on your live backend. Accounts created in the draft preview are throwaway test accounts, deleted when you publish. Creating accounts for people, sending password resets and deleting accounts all ask you to confirm first, because emails can't be recalled and a deleted account takes its data with it.
Why login emails stop arriving
Out of the box, your backend sends login emails (sign-in links, codes, password resets, confirmations) through a starter sender meant for testing. It sends at most 2 emails per hour for your whole site, and emails past that aren't sent. That isn't a delay or a spam filter, and your site isn't broken.
That's fine for testing. Before real customers sign in, connect your own email account.
Lifting the limit: connect Resend
Your site sends login email through your own free Resend account. Willo never sends your members' mail from a shared account, because one sender's bad reputation would affect every business on it.
- Ask Willo in chat: "set up login email for my site". It shows a Connect Resend card.
- Click it and authorise your Resend account, creating a free one first if you don't have one. There's no key to copy.
- Willo uses the sending domain already in that Resend account:
- Domain verified in Resend: setup finishes on its own.
- Domain added but not verified: Willo shows the DNS records Resend needs. Resend can usually add them for you (on the domain's page at resend.com/domains, sign in to your DNS provider); otherwise add them at your registrar.
- No domain yet: add one at resend.com/domains, then come back.
Once the domain verifies, login mail switches over and your site can send up to 100 login emails an hour. Resend's own free plan has limits too: 100 emails a day, 3,000 a month and one verified domain. Login emails count against them, and a paid Resend plan raises them.
Ask Willo "is my login email set up?" at any point. It checks with Resend and tells you exactly which step you're on. Trust that over how Resend's dashboard looks: login mail only switches when Willo has confirmed the domain itself.
Which domain mail comes from
The sending domain must be one you control the DNS for. It doesn't have to be your site's domain: if your site is still on its bywillo.ai address, any domain you own works. A bywillo.ai address can't be a sending domain.
Login mail comes from no-reply@ your domain unless you choose another address, such as hello@ or accounts@. A real address is friendlier, but replies go to it, so pick one somebody reads. An owner or admin can ask Willo to change it.
Willo keeps a sending-only key and an authorisation that shows in your Resend dashboard as an authorised application. You can withdraw it there at any time. Connecting Resend changes login email only; email campaigns move to your account only if you ask for that separately.
