Steer the Growth Engine
Point the Growth Engine at what matters with goals and roadmap tasks, plan work that repeats, narrow its work, and set what it may spend.
On this page
The Growth Engine chooses its own next task, but it chooses from what you give it: your goals, the roadmap, and the kinds of work you allow. This guide covers the levers, from the most direct.
1. Tell Willo what matters
In chat, say what you are trying to achieve, in plain words and with a number when you have one:
This quarter I want 50 people on the newsletter and the workshop page ranking for "pottery classes in Leeds".
Willo records it as a goal. The engine plans new tasks against your goals when the roadmap runs low, and reviews finished tasks against them.
2. Put tasks on the roadmap
Open Business in the left rail, then Roadmap, to see what is queued and in what order. To add work, ask Willo in chat:
- "Add a roadmap task: write a guide to choosing your first wheel."
- "Move the pricing page review to the top of the roadmap."
The engine takes the highest-priority ready task on each run, so the top of the roadmap is what happens next.
3. Plan work that repeats
A roadmap task is done once. For work that should recur at a fixed time, such as a weekly digest, with exactly the tools you choose, an Agent Program is the right tool, on the plans that include it.
On a plan without Agent Programs, ask Willo to queue the repeats as separate tasks:
Add six roadmap tasks, each a blog post answering one of these customer questions: …
The engine works through them like any other roadmap item, in priority order rather than on set dates.
4. Narrow what it works on
Under Settings → Autonomy, What the Growth Engine works on lists six kinds of work: content, marketing, product, research, revenue and operations. Untick any you want to keep for yourself. "Product" covers code changes to your app or site; untick it if you want every code change to come from you in chat.
Turning off blog auto-publish doesn't narrow the engine's work. It only keeps what the engine writes as drafts.
5. Set what it may spend
On the same page, Daily budget (credits) caps what the engine spends in any 24 hours. The card shows what it has used. When it reaches the budget, it pauses until spending in the last 24 hours falls back under it.
A higher budget means more work done each day and more of the plan's credits spent on it. A lower one keeps more credits for your own chat work. The budget is per business, so each of your businesses can have its own.
Check it worked
After a day or two, open Business → Activity. Tasks marked By Growth Engine should match what you asked for. If they don't, say so in chat ("stop working on SEO for now, focus on the newsletter") and Willo adjusts the roadmap.
