AI agents that run your business

October 8, 2026

Wix is one of the most used website builders in the world. In 2026 the homepage leads with Wix Harmony: a hybrid editor that generates a site from a prompt, then lets you finish it with drag-and-drop or Aria, the built-in AI agent. Around that editor is a full small-business stack — store, bookings, events, email, ads, SEO, and 24/7 support.

That is a different job from an AI company-in-a-box. Wix is strongest when you want a designed, hosted website (and often a store or booking calendar) that you will run. It is a weaker match if you need research, a brand system, and agents that keep operating the business after publish.

Curious how it stacks up against Willo? Check out our comparison between Wix and Willo.

What is Wix?

Wix is a website builder and domain registrar founded in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami, and Giora Kaplan. Headquarters are in Tel Aviv. Wix listed on Nasdaq in November 2013. The about page states 300M+ users worldwide. The homepage also claims 300M+ sites built and 90K+ sites created daily. Those are company figures.

What “Wix” means in practice:

  • Consumer builder — Harmony editor, templates, App Market, Premium plans (Free, Light, Core, Business, Business Elite).
  • Wix Studio — a workspace for designers, developers, agencies, and enterprises (responsive AI, CMS, Velo, multi-site).
  • Enterprise — custom contracts, multi-site management, dedicated support.

This review focuses on the consumer builder most people search for. Studio is noted where it changes the picture.

On G2, Wix was 4.2 / 5 from 1,889 reviews on August 20, 2026. On Capterra, the listing showed 4.4 from 10,760 reviews.

How Wix works

1. Start free

No credit card. You get hosting, the editor, templates, and a wixsite.com URL. The free site shows Wix ads and is not meant as a finished professional presence.

2. Generate or pick a starting point

Three official paths:

  • Prompt — AI website builder / Harmony: describe the business; get pages, copy, and visuals.
  • Template — 2,000+ industry templates. Harmony says templates are “just another way in”; AI is still available in the editor.
  • Blank / manual — classic drag-and-drop.

Wix says this AI flow replaced the older ADI product (fixed questions, less continuous help). Aria now stays from editor to dashboard.

3. Edit in Harmony

Harmony is marketed as vibe-coding plus pixel control. Aria can generate pages, sections, and images “on-brand.” You can still move every element by hand. The official Harmony page warns that AI can make mistakes and you should double-check results.

4. Add business apps

From the homepage: ecommerce, scheduling, lead management, portfolio, blog, online courses, events, payments. Marketing add-ons include automations, a unified inbox, email, social, Google and Meta ads, and SEO tools (including an SEO assistant and integrations such as Google Search Console and Semrush).

5. Upgrade to go professional

A Premium plan is required to connect a custom domain. Paid plans also remove Wix branding, raise storage and collaborator limits, and (from Core up) let you accept payments. Wix offers a 14-day money-back guarantee on those plans.

Hosting and export

Wix help states the site must be hosted and operated on Wix’s servers. Advantages they list: security monitoring, CDN, automatic updates, 99.9% uptime. The limitation: SaaS architecture does not support external hosting. You own the content (per Wix Terms of Use, as cited in that article). You can connect or transfer a domain. You cannot lift the live site onto another host.

Developers can write JavaScript with Velo, use a VS Code–style IDE, or connect GitHub — still on Wix, not as a portable static export.

Key features

Wix Harmony and Aria

Harmony generates a first site from natural language. Aria is described as a web-design and business expert tuned into your site: generate as you go, then fine-tune. This is AI inside a website builder, not an autonomous company operator.

Templates and visual editor

A large, mature template library and a drag-and-drop canvas remain the reason most G2 reviewers pick Wix.

Commerce, bookings, and payments

Core and above unlock accepting payments, basic-to-advanced ecommerce (catalogs up to 50,000 products on the plans comparison), scheduling, subscriptions via Pricing Plans, and related store tools (abandoned cart, discounts, pre-orders, loyalty — some features step up on Business / Elite).

Pricing Plans transaction fees on the official plans page:

  • Core: 4%
  • Business: 2%
  • Business Elite: 0%

Those are on top of processor fees. Wix’s July 2026 cost article lists US Wix Payments at 2.9% + $0.30 for most cards (Amex and PayPal differ).

Light cannot accept payments.

Marketing and SEO

Lead-capture form limits scale by plan (4 / 10 / 25 / 75). Email, ads, automations, and an SEO assistant are first-party. Google Ads with Wix is listed on paid plans. App Market apps can extend this — some cost extra.

Collaboration and Studio

Collaborators: Light 2, Core 5, Business 10, Elite 100. Studio is the agency/enterprise product: multi-site, reusable assets, Figma-to-Studio, code assistant. Do not assume Studio prices equal Light–Elite.

What Wix does not do

It does not research your market, write a living company roadmap, or run a weekly growth loop as a team of business agents. It does not give you a GitHub repo of the site you can host elsewhere. Those gaps are intentional. They are why some “Wix alternative” searches are really looking for a different category.

Pricing and plans

Displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions, paid in full. Other periods exist at different rates. Taxes depend on billing address.

All paid plans on that page include: custom domain, multi-cloud hosting, AI creation tools, 24/7 customer care, remove Wix ads, 14-day money-back.

Voucher rules (plans page): valid for a new domain on extensions such as .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, and several others — not for renewing a domain you already own.

Extra costs Wix documents

From the official How much is a Wix website? article:

  • Domain renewal after the free year (examples: .com $13.35/year, .org $14.95/year)
  • Google Workspace professional email
  • App Market apps, some $3–$20+ per month
  • Payment processing (see rates above)
  • Optional Wix Expert / Partner hire

Studio

Wix Studio pricing is a separate catalog for client sites. This review does not treat Studio dollar amounts as verified; confirm on that page if you are an agency.

User feedback and reputation

G2 — 4.2 / 5 from 1,889 reviews (as of August 2026)

What reviewers often like

  • Drag-and-drop that does not require code
  • Templates as a strong starting point
  • Store, booking, and other apps in one dashboard
  • Independence from waiting on a developer for copy or image swaps

A validated G2 review excerpt (current user) praised “the balance it strikes between creative freedom and ease of use” and time saved versus hiring for simple updates.

What reviewers often dislike

  • Mobile app is weaker than desktop for real design work (same review)
  • Price and add-ons: Francisco V. (July 13, 2026, 4.5/5) wrote that the price “keeps rising,” that more features are charged separately, and that performance remains a weak point even while praising design

These are individual reviews, not a census. The volume is large enough that “easy to use, watch the bill and performance” is a fair summary of the public corpus.

Capterra — 4.4 from 10,760 reviews

Capterra’s Wix listing showed 4.4 (10,760) as of August 2026. Compare-page snippets on Capterra consistently highlight ease of use and templates, with occasional notes on plan limits and cost as sites grow.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fast path from idea for a website to a published URL
  • Harmony + Aria plus full manual control
  • Huge template and App Market ecosystem
  • Native commerce, bookings, events, courses
  • Free plan to try; paid plans include hosting and 24/7 care
  • 14-day money-back on Premium
  • Domain voucher on yearly paid plans
  • Studio / Enterprise if you outgrow the consumer builder
  • Large, long-running review footprint

Cons

  • Cannot host the site anywhere but Wix
  • Free plan branded URL and Wix ads
  • Light has no payments
  • Processor fees plus Pricing Plans percentages on Core/Business
  • Apps, email, and experts can raise the real monthly cost
  • You still own strategy, content cadence, and growth
  • Some reviewers report add-on fatigue or performance issues
  • AI drafts still need a human pass (Wix says so)

Limitations and challenges

It is a website platform, not a business operator. Harmony will not interview your market or run next week’s growth loop unless you do that work in the dashboard.

Lock-in is architectural. Help Center language leaves little room: SaaS + proprietary stack = Wix hosting for the life of that site. Budget a rebuild if you might leave..

Commerce has layered fees. Wix Payments + Pricing Plans fees + possible app subscriptions. Model that before you pick Core to “just take payments.”

Who Wix is best for

  • Owners who want to design and update a marketing site themselves
  • Retail, services, events, and hospitality that need native Wix apps
  • Beginners who want templates, hosting, and a support line in one vendor
  • Freelancers and agencies delivering client sites on Studio
  • Anyone comfortable staying on Wix infrastructure

Who may want an alternative

  • Founders who need research, brand, and ongoing agent work — not only a site
  • Teams that must own a portable GitHub repo
  • Stores that will outgrow Wix commerce or refuse stacked fees
  • Users who only need a static site they can host anywhere
  • People who want unsupervised ads/outreach (different category entirely)

Alternatives depend on the job: Webflow or Squarespace for other builders; Shopify for serious commerce; Lovable or Base44 for prompt-to-app; a business builder if the company itself is the gap.

Willo as an alternative

Willo is an AI business builder, not a visual CMS. You describe a business. Agents research the market, create a brand, deploy a website to your GitHub repo, prepare Stripe, and keep working on content and operations. The backend is provisioned from the Free plan onward.

Willo does not match Wix’s template library, bookings suite, or 50,000-product store. It does deploy to your repo and states a 0% platform fee on Stripe Connect. Chat is free. Plans start at $0 (40 one-time credits) and $25/month for Starter. Custom domains start on Builder ($49/month).

That is a better starting point if you do not have a site or a team. It is a worse starting point if you already know you want a highly designed Wix (or Studio) property.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wix free?

Yes. You can build and host on a Wix subdomain for $0. Professional use almost always means a paid plan (custom domain, no Wix ads, payments).

How much does Wix cost in 2026?

Official yearly cards: Light $17, Core $29, Business $39, Business Elite $159 per month, billed annually in full, plus tax. Other periods exist. Confirm on wix.com/plans.

What is Wix Harmony?

The current hybrid editor: generate from a prompt, then edit with Aria or drag-and-drop. It is included with Wix plans rather than sold as a separate SKU (per Wix’s own Harmony/cost explainers).

Can I accept payments on Light?

No. Payments start on Core.

Can I export my Wix site to WordPress or Netlify?

Not as a working Wix site. Official help: it must run on Wix servers. You can reuse your copy and assets elsewhere by rebuilding.

Is Wix good for SEO?

Wix says sites follow SEO best practices and include an SEO assistant, AI meta tags, homepage indexing, and Search Console / Semrush integrations. It also cites a Google case study. SEO results still depend on your content and market.

Conclusion

Wix in 2026 is a mature website-and-commerce platform with a credible AI first draft. Harmony and Aria speed setup. The App Market and Premium plans cover most local-business and small-store needs. The durable constraints are hosting lock-in, layered fees if you sell, and the fact that you still run the company.

If that is the job, start free on Wix. If the job is standing up a business — research, brand, site, payments, weekly agents — start free on Willo and compare from there.
