Wix and Willo both help someone get a website online without hiring a developer. They are not the same kind of product.
Wix is a website builder and domain registrar. Its current editor, Wix Harmony, mixes prompt-based generation with drag-and-drop. Aria is the built-in AI agent that can generate pages, copy, and images, then stay in the dashboard for design and business questions. Around that editor sits a large stack: templates, ecommerce, bookings, events, email, ads, SEO tools, and 24/7 customer care. The site lives on Wix’s servers. You cannot export it to another host.
Willo is an AI business builder. You describe an idea. Agents research the market, create a brand, deploy a website to your GitHub repo, prepare Stripe, and keep working on content, marketing, and operations. Chat is free. Credits pay for work that ships. Paid plans do not take a cut of revenue.
If you want pixel control, thousands of templates, and a mature store or booking site you will edit yourself, Wix is usually the better fit. If you want the business to exist — research, brand, site, payments, and weekly agent work — Willo is built for that job.
Quick decision table
| If you need… | Better starting point |
|---|---|
| A polished site you design yourself, with or without AI | Wix |
| 2,000+ templates and drag-and-drop down to the pixel | Wix |
| Native store, bookings, events, courses, or restaurants | Wix |
| A custom domain, 24/7 support, and a 14-day money-back window | Wix |
| An agency workspace for many client sites (Wix Studio) | Wix |
| Market research, positioning, and a brand guide on day one | Willo |
| A site auto-deployed to your GitHub repo | Willo |
| Stripe checkout with no platform cut of revenue | Willo |
| Agents that keep drafting content and planning the week | Willo |
| Several businesses on one shared credit pool | Willo |
| Leaving later with the code, not only the content | Willo |
Wix is a website (and commerce) platform you operate. Willo is an AI team that starts and runs a business with you still approving the important calls.
What is Wix?

Wix is a website builder and domain registrar founded in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami, and Giora Kaplan. Headquarters are in Tel Aviv. The company listed on Nasdaq in 2013. Its about page states 300M+ users worldwide. The homepage also claims 300M+ sites built and 90K+ sites created daily. Treat those as company figures.
The product people mean by “Wix” is usually the consumer builder:
- Wix Harmony — hybrid editor: generate from a prompt, then refine by hand or with Aria.
- AI website builder — describe a business; get a first site; edit with Aria or drag-and-drop. Wix says this replaced the older ADI flow.
- Templates — thousands of industry templates.
- Business apps — ecommerce, scheduling, lead management, portfolio, blog, online courses, events, payments.
- Growth tools — SEO assistant, Google Search Console and Semrush integrations, email, social, Google and Meta ads, automations, unified inbox, Owner App.

Wix Studio is a separate workspace for designers, developers, agencies, and enterprises: responsive AI, CMS, Velo/code, Figma import, and multi-site management. If you are not building client sites at scale, the main Wix builder is the relevant comparison.
How Wix works
- Start free — no credit card. You get a wixsite.com URL, hosting, and the editor.
- Generate with AI, pick a template, or start blank.
- Edit visually. Aria can add pages, sections, images, and copy. You keep pixel control.
- Add business apps (store, bookings, forms, blog).
- Upgrade to a Premium plan to connect a custom domain, remove Wix ads, accept payments (Core and up), and raise storage and collaborator limits.
Official help is explicit: a Wix site must be hosted on Wix’s servers. You own the content. You cannot move the live site to another host because it depends on Wix’s SaaS stack. You can connect a domain bought elsewhere.
What is Willo?
Willo is an AI business builder for founders, operators, solopreneurs, agencies, and local businesses. You describe a business or idea. Willo stands up an AI team and the infrastructure to run it.
On day one, Willo says agents ship:
- Market, competitor, and audience research
- A brand guide (voice, palette, positioning)
- A living roadmap with milestones and tasks
- A website deployed to your own GitHub repo plus hosting
- Stripe prepared for revenue
- Strategic decisions logged in an auditable Decision Register
The built-in team on the homepage is seven agents: CEO, Product, Research, Marketing, Content, Support, and Finance. Chat is always free. Credits are spent on work that ships.
A provisioned backend is included across all plans, even on Free. Moving to a paid plan adds the Autonomous Growth Engine, Stripe Connect revenue features, email and contact tools, and built-in analytics. Higher plans expand on that with custom domains, team collaboration, business transfers, Shopify integration, increased backend compute, and other features.

AI capabilities
Wix’s AI is site-centric. Harmony generates a first draft. Aria adds pages, sections, and images and can talk strategy in the dashboard. Studio adds responsive AI and a code assistant. You still design, publish, and market the site.
Willo’s AI is business-centric. Agents research competitors, lock positioning, ship the site, draft campaigns, and queue weekly work. The Growth Engine on paid plans runs plan → execute → reflect using traffic and revenue data. Custom agents are listed as coming soon on Growth and Scale.
Website, hosting, and lock-in
This is the sharpest product difference.
Wix is excellent inside Wix. Help Center language is unambiguous: the site must run on Wix infrastructure. Leave, and you keep your content and domain relationship — not a portable repo you can stand up on Vercel or Netlify.
Willo deploys to your GitHub and includes hosting. That is closer to “I can take this with me” than Wix’s SaaS model. Willo is not trying to match Harmony’s visual polish or template library.
Ecommerce, payments, and fees
Wix is a real commerce platform: catalogs up to 50,000 products on Core+, abandoned cart, discounts, pre-orders, loyalty, marketplace and social selling. Payments start on Core. Wix’s cost article lists US Wix Payments card fees at 2.9% + $0.30 (Amex and PayPal differ). Separately, the plans page charges a Pricing Plans transaction fee of 4% (Core), 2% (Business), 0% (Business Elite) on memberships and subscriptions sold through Pricing Plans.
Willo includes Stripe Connect on paid plans, creates products and checkout pages, and states it takes no platform cut. Shopify storefronts start on Builder. It is not a 50,000-SKU native store with Wix-style loyalty tiers.
Collaboration and agencies
Wix Light–Elite scales collaborators from 2 to 100. Studio is built for client work, handoff, and multi-site ops. Willo has teammate invites and business transfer. Useful for agencies spinning up a client business — not a replacement for Studio.

Wix

From wix.com/plans. Displayed prices are yearly subscriptions, paid in full. Other periods exist at different rates. Taxes extra.
| Plan | Listed price | Storage | Collaborators | Payments | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited (free tier) | — | No | wixsite.com URL; Wix ads; hosting + editor + templates |
| Light | $17/mo | 2 GB | 2 | No | Custom domain; 1-year domain voucher; remove Wix ads |
| Core | $29/mo | 50 GB | 5 | Yes | Basic ecommerce + scheduling; Pricing Plans fee 4% |
| Business | $39/mo | 100 GB | 10 | Yes | Standard marketing + ecommerce; Pricing Plans fee 2% |
| Business Elite | $159/mo | Unlimited | 100 | Yes | Advanced developer platform; Pricing Plans fee 0% |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | Multi-site; dedicated support |
All paid plans on that page include: custom domain, multi-cloud hosting, AI creation tools, 24/7 customer care, 14-day money-back guarantee, and a 1-year free domain voucher for a new domain on listed extensions (not a renewal).
Extra costs Wix itself flags: domain renewal after year one (article examples: .com $13.35/year, .org $14.95/year), Google Workspace email, App Market apps (some $3–$20+/month), payment processing, and optional Wix Experts.
Wix Studio has its own pricing page. Do not mix Studio SKUs with the consumer Light–Elite cards.
Willo
From Willo’s pricing page:
| Plan | Price | Credits | Businesses | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 40 one-time | Up to 2 | Unlimited chat, AI website, cloud hosting, no credit card |
| Starter | $25/month | 150/mo | Up to 3 | App/software building, backend, Growth Engine, Stripe Connect, email, analytics |

| Growth | $99/month | 600/mo | Up to 12 | 2× Builder credits, custom agents (coming soon), early beta, more compute |
| Scale | $199/month | 1,300/mo | Up to 25 | Best credit rate, 15× backend compute, priority support |
Chat is always free. Credits are a shared pool across every business. Extra packs start at 50 credits for $11 ($0.22/credit) down to $0.18/credit at 1,000 credits. Custom domains start on Builder.
How the bills actually compare
- Wix Light $17 (annual) is a cheap professional brochure site. It cannot take payments.
- Wix Core $29 (annual) is the first commerce plan. Add processor fees and, if you sell memberships, a 4% Pricing Plans fee.
- Willo Starter $25 includes backend, Growth Engine, and Stripe with 0% platform fee — but fewer visual templates and no native bookings/LMS suite.
- Willo Builder $49 vs Wix Business $39: similar stickers; Wix buys you a mature store and 10 collaborators; Willo buys you more credits, custom domain, team invites, and Shopify on a GitHub-backed stack.
Wix is usually cheaper if you only need a site you will edit yourself. Willo is usually cheaper if the alternative is Wix plus a strategist, copywriter, and someone to keep publishing. Do not compare Wix Free to Willo Free as equals: Wix Free is a hosted site with ads; Willo Free is a one-time credit bundle to try agent work.
Ease of use and onboarding
Wix is one of the most practiced onboarding flows in consumer SaaS: start free, pick a template or prompt Harmony, publish on a subdomain. G2 reviewers repeatedly praise the drag-and-drop editor and templates. Complaints that show up in the same corpus include mobile-app editing limits, performance, and prices or add-ons stacking up.
Willo is built for someone who can describe a business in plain language. There is no template grid. Day-one output is a site, brand, and roadmap. You still need to show up weekly.
If you enjoy designing, Wix feels like a studio. If you want the first hour to produce research and a live repo, Willo feels like a team.

Wix’s own stories and template gallery are this profile: restaurants, boutiques, portfolios, coaches.

Typical cases:
- A shop, studio, or restaurant that needs a store or booking calendar
- A portfolio or brochure site where visual control matters more than agents

- You are an agency delivering client marketing sites on Studio

Frequently asked questions
Is Willo a Wix alternative?
Only for a specific search. People looking for a “Wix alternative” often want any tool that publishes a site. Willo can publish a site from a prompt, so it shows up in that mental category. It does not replace Harmony, the App Market, or Wix Stores.
Can Wix start a business from scratch?
It can generate a website from a prompt and attach store or booking apps. It does not research your market, write a living roadmap, or run a weekly growth loop the way Willo describes. You still operate the business.
Can I export my Wix site?
Wix help says the site must stay on Wix servers. You own the content. You can connect an external domain. You cannot lift the site onto another host. Willo deploys to your GitHub repo.
Which is cheaper?
A brochure site on Wix Light (annual $17/mo listed) is usually cheaper than Willo Builder. A paying store on Wix Core plus processor fees can land near Willo Starter. Compare the job: site-only vs business-in-a-box.
How do reviewers rate Wix?
On G2, Wix was 4.2 / 5 from 1,889 reviews on August 2026 (61% five-star, 27% four-star). On Capterra, the listing showed 4.4 from 10,760 reviews. Praise often covers ease of use and templates. Complaints include add-on cost, mobile editing, and (for some) performance.
Conclusion
Wix is a strong choice when you want a designed website — and often a store or booking system — on proven hosting, with AI to speed the first draft. Harmony and Aria make that faster than the old template-only flow. The tradeoff is staying on Wix’s infrastructure and doing the business work yourself.
Willo is a better choice when you need the business itself: research, brand, website, payments, and an AI team that keeps working after launch.
If you have an idea and no stack behind it, start free on Willo — no credit card required. If you already know you want a Wix (or Studio) site, start free on Wix instead.
