AI agents that run your business

Bubble and Willo both use AI so a non-technical person can ship something real. They are not solving the same problem.

Bubble calls itself a no-code AI app builder. You describe an app, it generates UI, logic, and a database, then you refine everything in a visual editor. The same project can include a web app and native iOS/Android apps, with hosting, a built-in database, workflows, privacy rules, plugins, and app-store publishing in one platform. Official homepage stats (checked August 20, 2026) list 6 million builders, 8 million apps, and 8,000 plugins. Customer logos on the homepage include Unity, Paramount, Amazon, Yamaha, L'Oréal, Danone, and Seagate.

Willo is an AI business builder. You describe an idea. Agents research the market, create a brand, deploy a website to your GitHub repo, prepare Stripe, and keep working on content, marketing, and operations. Chat is free. Credits pay for work that ships.

If you need a custom web or native mobile application you will keep editing yourself — a marketplace, SaaS product, internal tool, or booking system — Bubble is usually the better fit. If you want the business to exist — research, brand, site, payments, and weekly agent work — Willo is built for that job.

What is Bubble?

Bubble is a full-stack no-code platform from Bubble Group, Inc. The product pitch is “launch apps, not prototypes”: switch between AI prompting and visual editing to build web and mobile apps.

The stack is one editor, not a pile of separate tools:

  • AI generation. Describe an idea. Bubble says it builds a working app — UI, logic, and database — that you can edit visually. Unlike code generators, Bubble generates an app inside its own visual model rather than a repo of source files.
  • AI Agent (beta). Chat to add features, connect APIs (Bubble’s agent page names examples such as Stripe or Anthropic), build backend workflows, and troubleshoot. Official pages mark the agent as beta.
  • Design. Drag-and-drop, responsive layouts, and a component library. There is also a Figma to Bubble path.
  • Data. A built-in no-code database with user accounts, custom data types, privacy rules, file hosting, bulk operations, option sets, custom states, and the ability to expose your app as an API.
  • Logic. Visual workflows and expressions for signup, payments, scheduled jobs, conditionals, and API calls. Recurring / backend workflows are a paid-plan feature on the official pricing page.
  • Native mobile (beta on the marketing page). Design, build, and publish iOS and Android apps. Official docs say a paid Mobile or Web + Mobile plan is required to deploy live, publish to stores, keep live versions running, and use over-the-air (OTA) updates.
  • Integrations. An API connector, a plugin marketplace (homepage claims 8,000 plugins), and templates. Plugins may be free, subscription, or one-time; some call paid third-party APIs.
  • Collaboration. Version control (basic on Starter, premium on Growth), branching, and an Agency account for people who build client apps.
  • Security. Official security page: SOC 2 Type II, a GDPR-ready data processing agreement, encryption, role-based access, and a security dashboard that scans elements, workflows, settings, and plugins.

What is Willo?

Willo is an AI business builder for founders, operators, solopreneurs, agencies, and local businesses. You describe a business or idea. An AI team researches competitors, writes a brand guide, deploys a website to your GitHub repo, prepares Stripe, and keeps a living roadmap.

Willo’s What to Expect page is direct about what it is not: not a get-rich-quick scheme, not a replacement for product-market fit, not set-and-forget, and not a paid-ads manager, lawyer, or accountant.

On paid plans, a Growth Engine runs weekly plan → execute → reflect cycles against real traffic and revenue data. Chat is always free. Credits are spent on work that ships (coding sessions, background builds). Credits are a shared pool across every business on the account.

You stay the captain: approve strategy, bring domain knowledge, review output, and show up weekly. Cancel anytime and keep the GitHub repo, Stripe, and exportable email list.

AI: generate an app vs run a company

Bubble’s AI is a builder inside the editor. Official copy: one prompt builds UI, logic, and database; then you chat with the Agent or edit visually. The Agent can wire API connections and backend workflows. You stay in Bubble’s model — elements, data types, privacy rules, expressions.

Willo’s AI is a team that operates. Research writes a competitor report. Product deploys the site. Marketing drafts campaigns for your OK. Finance tracks spend. On paid plans the Growth Engine plans the week from live analytics. That is a different loop from “add a feature to my app.”

Neither replaces judgment. Bubble still needs someone who understands data types and privacy rules. Willo still needs someone who approves positioning and reviews output.

Apps, websites, and mobile

Bubble is stronger when the product is the software: multi-sided marketplaces, SaaS with roles, internal tools, booking systems, community apps. Native mobile is a first-class plan type, not a wrapper afterthought — though the marketing page still labels the mobile product beta, and live store deployment requires a paid Mobile or Web + Mobile plan.

Willo is stronger when the product is a business that needs a site, offer, and operating cadence. It can build websites, apps, and software from a description, and all plans include a provisioned backend. It does not advertise App Store / Play submission, multiple live native versions, or OTA builds.

Data, logic, and lock-in

Bubble’s database and workflow engine are the reason people stay. Privacy rules, option sets, backend workflows, and “turn the app into an API” are real application primitives. The tradeoff is official and unambiguous: apps only run on Bubble. Leaving means rebuilding logic.

Willo’s ownership pitch is the opposite shape: GitHub repo in your org, revenue in your Stripe, email list exportable. You are not exporting a Bubble-style visual program; you are keeping the artifacts of a business.

Growth after launch

Bubble will host and scale the app (workload units, overages, Enterprise clusters). It will not research your market, write your brand, or run a weekly content/email loop unless you build those features.

Willo’s paid Growth Engine is the after-launch product: weekly plan → execute → reflect on real traffic and revenue. It will not give you Bubble’s depth of visual workflow control or native store publishing.

What the official pages add:

  • One plan per project. A project can be web only, mobile only, or web + mobile and share data, workflows, and infrastructure. Separate projects each need a plan.
  • Free plan is for building. Live website, custom domain, recurring workflows, and branding are listed on paid cards. Mobile live deploy / store publish needs a paid mobile plan.
  • 14-day Starter trial on new apps, started within 10 days of creation. A $1 card pre-authorization (temporary hold) is documented.
  • Workload units (WU) measure server work (page loads, searches, workflows, API calls). Usage resets monthly. Paid apps include 100,000 WU/month for the Development environment. Live WU bundled in each paid tier was not published as a simple number in the docs we fetched — do not invent it.
  • Extra WU: purchase a workload tier, or enable flexible overages at $0.30 per 1,000 WU if you have no tier. Free and Agency apps cannot buy tiers or overages. Hitting the cap with overages off takes the app offline.
  • Extra file storage: $3 / month per 100 GB.
  • Documented bandwidth: Free 1 GB, Starter 100 GB, Growth 500 GB, Team 1 TB.
  • Mobile build allotments (first 3 months / after): Starter 10 / 5, Growth 15 / 10, Team 25 / 20. Live mobile versions: Starter 3, Growth 5, Team 8.
  • Agency account is a separate seat-based path for people building unlimited client apps (live publish still needs the client on a paid plan, per docs).
  • Student and nonprofit discounts exist; contact Bubble.

G2’s Bubble listing (vendor-provided) shows Free and “Starter starting at $29.00 per month,” which matches the annual web-only Starter row.

Growth$99 / month600 / month12

Chat is unlimited and free on every plan. Credits are a shared pool. Rollover starts at Builder (1 month). Custom domains, team invite, Shopify, and business transfer start at Builder. Backend, Growth Engine, Stripe Connect, email, and analytics start at Starter. Custom agents are listed as coming soon on Growth and Scale.

Credit top-ups: 50 for $11 through 1,000 for $180.

How to read the two bills

They are hard to line up on purpose.

  • Bubble charges per live project, then adds usage (WU, storage, plugins). A founder with one web app on annual Starter is in the $29/month neighborhood before overages. A web + mobile Growth app billed monthly is $249/month before WU. Several client apps means several plans, unless you are on Agency.
  • Willo charges one subscription for every business on the account, plus credits for shipped work. Starter at $25/month is cheaper than Bubble Starter if you need a live business site, research, and Stripe — and you are not trying to ship a native app to the stores.

Willo is usually cheaper than hiring a cross-functional team and the wrong tool if what you actually need is a complex multi-user application. Bubble is usually cheaper than hiring engineers and more expensive than a simple site builder once you go live.

Ease of use and onboarding

Bubble. Free to start, no time limit on exploring in development. The editor is a real development environment: data types, privacy rules, expression language, responsive engine, debugger. Official Academy, manual, forum, templates, coaches, and certification exist because the learning curve is real. G2’s generated review summary (166 reviews, 4.4/5 as of this research) praises speed and flexibility and repeatedly flags a steep learning curve, pricing, and occasional quirks/bugs.

Willo. Sign up free, no card. Describe the idea; Day 1 ships the skeleton. Onboarding is closer to briefing a team than learning a programming model. It is easier to start than Bubble.

Who is Bubble best for?

  • Founders and product teams whose product is an application (marketplace, SaaS, internal tool, community, booking).
  • Teams that want web + native mobile from one backend.
  • Agencies that already sell Bubble builds (Agency account, templates, plugin ecosystem).
  • Operators who accept hosted lock-in in exchange for not running their own servers.
  • People willing to learn a visual programming language, or to hire a Bubble expert.

Who is Willo best for?

  • Founders, operators, solopreneurs, and local businesses who need research, marketing, brand, site, payments, and a weekly operating cadence.
  • Agencies that want to stand up a client business and hand it off to the client’s Willo account.
  • People who want artifacts they own outside the vendor (GitHub, Stripe, exportable list).
  • Anyone who does not want to become a Bubble developer in order to have a live offer.

Pros and cons

Bubble

Pros

  • Full-stack visual development: design, database, workflows, privacy, hosting.
  • AI generator plus a visual editor you can actually inspect and change.
  • Native iOS/Android path with store publishing and OTA updates.
  • Large plugin, template, and expert ecosystem; long-running community.
  • SOC 2 Type II and a security dashboard on the official security page.
  • Usage-based WU model is designed so apps are not throttled the way old “capacity” plans were.

Cons

  • You cannot export the app as source code; leaving means a rebuild.
  • Plans are per project; mobile and web + mobile cost more.
  • Live WU, plugins, and storage can make the bill hard to predict. G2 reviewers often mention price.
  • Steep learning curve for anything beyond a simple CRUD app.
  • Free plan is for development, not a serious live launch.
  • AI Agent and native mobile marketing pages still say beta.

Willo

Pros

  • Built for the whole business, not only the app.
  • Chat free; credits on shipped work; one pool across businesses.
  • GitHub-hosted site, Stripe, and exportable list — cancel and keep the work.
  • Weekly Growth Engine on paid plans.
  • Honest scope: no fake revenue guarantees; human-only legal/tax.

Cons

  • Not a replacement for Bubble’s visual workflow engine or native store pipeline.
  • Custom domain starts at Builder ($49/month).
  • You still have to show up; it is not passive income.

When to choose Bubble

Choose Bubble when the hard problem is software: users, roles, data, workflows, and maybe a native app. You (or a Bubble developer) will live in the editor. You are comfortable hosting on Bubble and treating WU as a cost of goods.

When to choose Willo

Choose Willo when the hard problem is getting a business into the market and keeping it moving: positioning, site, offer, payments, content, and a weekly loop. You want agents to do the production work while you approve the calls.

Some teams will use both in spirit: Willo (or a human team) for the company, Bubble for a custom application. They are complementary more often than they are substitutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Willo a Bubble alternative? For “I have an idea and I need software,” yes, people search that way. For “I need a no-code platform with a visual database and native mobile,” no — that is still Bubble’s category.

Can Bubble run my whole company? It can run the application your company sells or uses. Market research, brand, editorial calendar, and outreach are not the product. You build those features or do them elsewhere.

Can Willo build a marketplace or SaaS app as deep as Bubble? Willo can build websites, apps, and software, and all plans include a backend. It does not document Bubble-equivalent privacy-rule engines, plugin marketplace depth, or App Store submission. If that depth is the requirement, start with Bubble.

Does Bubble let me export code? Official ownership docs: no. Data can be exported (CSV / API). Design export help is offered if you leave. Apps run only on Bubble.

Which is cheaper? A single annual Bubble web Starter app at $29/month can undercut Willo Builder. A Bubble web + mobile Team app at $549/month plus WU will not. Willo’s $25–$49 plans include business operations Bubble never bundled.

Does Bubble have a free plan? Yes. Build in development for free. Live custom domain, recurring workflows, and store publishing need a paid plan.

Conclusion

Bubble is one of the most capable no-code app platforms available: AI to generate, a visual editor to control, a real database, workflows, and a native mobile path. That is the right tool when you are building software you will keep extending.

Willo is the right tool when you are building a business you will keep operating. The output is research, brand, a GitHub-backed site, Stripe, and agents that come back next week.

If your next step is an application, start on Bubble. If your next step is a company, start free on Willo — no credit card required.
