# Test your app signed in

> Have Willo sign its browser in to your app as its test user or as you, approve the testing session, and clean up the records it saved.

Willo can sign its own browser in to your app, click through a flow the way a signed-in person would, and tell you what worked. Sign it in as **Willo's test user** to check what anyone who signs up sees, or as **you** to check your admin pages and paid features. For what the browser does signed out, see [Willo's browser](https://www.willo.ai/docs/chat/willos-browser).

## Run a testing session

1. In chat on the dashboard, say what to test and as whom: "sign in as the test user and book a class", or "sign in as me and check the orders page".
2. Willo opens the page and shows a card: who it signs in as, what it will test, its plan, what it may save or change, and for how long.
3. Choose **Approve**. Willo signs in, works through the plan, shows screenshots, and says who it was signed in as.
4. The reply lists each record Willo saved, with the result, and anything it couldn't check.
5. Willo offers to delete the test records and never deletes them unasked. Deleting rows asks for your approval, like any delete.

The session lasts for this chat, up to an hour from your approval. Within it, Willo doesn't ask again for the same kind of work.

## As Willo's test user

The first time, Willo creates its test user in your app: an ordinary account with no special role, at an address that can't receive mail. It appears in your app's user list and metrics, and anything your app does for a new user runs for it.

On the live site, the card says which of three things the session may do:

- **Look and click only.** Nothing is saved.
- **Create records**, such as submitting a booking. Nothing is changed or deleted.
- **Create, change and delete records**, one record per change or delete. Never your database functions, or anything that sets roles.

On a draft, the test user signs in and saves without a card. Draft records stay in the draft backend, but your draft's functions can still send real email.

A saved record is real: whatever your app does on a new record happens, including its emails and webhooks. Willo saves up to 10 records at a time and 30 in one chat. For more, start a new chat.

To delete the test user from your app, live and draft, ask Willo to **retire its test user**. It asks on a card first.

## As you

Signing in as you works on your live site only. On a draft, Willo tests as its test user.

Your app needs one account with the email you sign in to Willo with, that you signed up for at least 7 days ago and have signed in to yourself. Willo checks this before it signs in. It never creates an account to sign in as you, and never uses one it created or changed.

The card, **Test your app signed in as you**, says that Willo may look, click, and save or change up to 10 records as you, one at a time. Only you can approve it; a teammate's approval doesn't count.

These still ask on their own card during the session:

- Deleting, archiving or cancelling a record.
- Changing access, a plan or anything to do with money, or moving a record to another account.
- Any save after Willo read outside content in the same request.

Willo never changes roles, calls your database functions, or changes more than one record at a time. Your other devices stay signed in. A sign-in or password-reset link already in your email stops working.

The session ends after an hour, after a few minutes unused, or when anyone else uses Willo's browser, or you use it from another chat. Back in this chat within the hour, Willo signs in again without a new card, up to three times per approval.

## If Willo can't sign in

| What Willo says | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| The page still shows a login | Your app uses a login Willo's browser can't sign in to (see [Limits](https://www.willo.ai/docs/chat/willos-browser#limits)). Check that page yourself. |
| Your account isn't one of this app's users | Sign up in your app with the email you use for Willo, or test as the test user. |
| Your account was created less than 7 days ago, or has never signed in | Test as the test user, or try again once the account is a week old and you've used it. |
| Willo created or changed your account | Sign up in your app yourself with the email you use for Willo, or test as the test user. |
| This app has no real users yet | Sign up in your own app first, then ask again. |
| The test user appears in a role or admin table | Take it out of that table, or retire the test user. |

## Questions

### Does Willo need my password to sign in as me?

No. Willo never sees or types your password. It signs in to your own account after you approve its card.

### Can Willo make an account for me so it can sign in as me?

No. Willo signs in as you only with an account you signed up for at least 7 days ago and have signed in to yourself. Otherwise it tests as its own test user.
